KARNATAKA JUDICIARY SYLLABUS AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

Have a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university or the Bar Council of India. 

Be enrolled as an advocate under the Advocates Act, of 1961.

 

AGE LIMIT

Meet the age limit, which varies by category: 

General category: Candidates must be under 35 years old.

Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST): Candidates must be under 38 years old. 

Ex-servicemen: Candidates are eligible for a three-year age relaxation.

 

SCHEME OF EXAMINATION: 

Preliminary Examination : Objective and Multiple Choice Type 

Mains Examination : Descriptive Exam (Written Conventional Type)

Interview : Viva-voce (Personality Test)

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

The Karnataka Judiciary Prelims Exam is scheduled to be conducted for a total of 100 marks, with each question carrying one mark. The exam duration is set at 2 hours. The Preliminary examination consists of three objective-type papers:                    Part A - Civil Law, Part B - Criminal Law, and Part C - General Knowledge.

MAINS EXAMINATION

The Mains syllabus is divided into four papers: Translation Paper, Law Paper 1, Law Paper 2 & Law Paper 3. In mains each paper will be of 100 marks.

 

The Karnataka Judiciary Mains Exam syllabus typically includes a Translation Paper, Law Paper I (covering Code of Civil Procedure, Code of Criminal Procedure, Indian Evidence Act, Principles of Pleading, and Constitution of India), Law Paper II (Framing of Issues and writing Judgments in Civil Cases), and Law Paper III (Framing of Charges and writing Judgments in Criminal Cases).

Translation Paper

Translate passages from English to Kannada and Kannada to English.

Passages will be from depositions, judgments, and documents.

The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908.

The Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

Principles of Pleading and the Constitution of India.

Law Paper-II

Framing of Issues and Writing of Judgments in Civil Cases.

INTERVIEW: VIVA VOCE

The viva-voce, or the Interview, is conducted for 100 marks. You'll be evaluated on your general knowledge of the law, suitability for the post, and other essential qualities required for a civil judge.

 

COMPUTER TEST

This section carries a maximum of 25 marks, and it's designed to assess your computer skills and overall suitability for the role.
