UTTAR PRADESH JUDICIARY SYLLABUS AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

A candidate for direct recruitment to the service, till the last Date for submitting the application:

Must be a Bachelor of Laws of a University established by Law in U.P. or any other University of India recognised for this purpose by the Governor, Or

Must be an Advocate enrolled under the provisions of the Advocate Act 1961 or a Barrister of England or Northern Ireland or a Member Faculty of Advocates in Scotland and is entitled to practice in the Court or Courts subordinate thereto;

Must possess a thorough Knowledge of Hindi in Devnagri Script.

 

AGE LIMIT

A candidate for direct recruitment to the service must have attained the age of 22 years and must not have attained the age more than 35 years.

Provided that the upper age limit shall be higher by five years in the case of Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBC, Skilled players of U.P.

The maximum number of chances a candidate is permitted to take will be Four (04).

 

SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

Preliminary Examination : Objective and Multiple Choice Type

Mains Examination : Descriptive Exam (Written Conventional Type)

Interview  :  Viva-voce (Personality Test)

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

Question paper comprises of 2 papers.

Duration of each paper is 2 Hours.

Paper 1 consists of General knowledge for 150 marks

Paper 2 consists of Law subject for 300 marks

There will be 1 Mark for right answer and 0.33 negative marking for each wrong answer.

Paper No.2: English Language: This paper will be of 100 marks.

It shall comprise three questions as specified below:-

Essay –                                                                  50 marks

Précis writing –                                                     30 marks

Translation of passage from Hindi to English      20 marks

 

Paper No.3: Hindi Language: This paper will be of 100 marks.

It shall comprise three questions as specified below:-

Essay –                                                                  50 marks

Précis writing –                                                     30 marks

Translation of passage from English to Hindi      20 marks

 

Paper No. 4- Law-I (Substantive Law): This paper will be of 200 marks.

The Indian Contract Act, 1872

The Indian Partnership Act, 1932

The law concerning easements and torts

The Law relating to transfer of property, 1882 including the principles of equity, specifically applicable thereto,

The principal of Equity with special reference to the Law of trust and specific relief

Hindu Law

Mohammedan Law

Constitutional Law- There shall be questions of 50 marks in relation to Constitutional Law alone.

 

Paper No. 5- Law-II (Procedure and Evidence)- This paper will be of 200 marks.

Questions set will be restricted to the field covered by-

The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023/ The Indian Evidence Act, 1872

The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023/ Code of Criminal Procedure of India, 1973

Code of Civil Procedure,1908  including the principles of pleading.

The question set will relate mainly to practical matters such as the framing of charges and issues the methods of dealing with the evidence of witnesses the writing of judgment and the conduct of cases generally but will not be restricted to them.

 

Paper No. 6- Law-III (Penal,  Revenue and Local Laws)- This paper will be of 200 marks.

Questions set will be restricted to the field covered by-

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023/ The Indian penal code, 1860

Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006

Uttar Pradesh Urban Building (Regulation of Letting, Rent and Eviction) Act, 1972

Uttar Pradesh Regulation of Urban Premises Tenancy Act, 2021

Uttar Pradesh Municipalities Act, 1916

Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act, 1947

Uttar Pradesh Consolidation of Holdings Act, 1953

Uttar Pradesh Urban (Planning and Development) Act 1973, together with rules framed under the aforesaid Acts.

 

Answer to the questions of Local Laws will be compulsory.

Questions pertaining to Penal Laws will be of 50 marks, whereas, that of Revenue and Local Laws will be of 150 marks.

 

INTERVIEW: VIVA VOCE

The interview will be of 100 marks.

The suitability of candidates for employment in the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service will be tested with reference to his merit giving due regard to his ability character, personality and physique.
