A candidate shall be eligible to appear at the examination, if he is:-
A citizen of India.
A person practising as an Advocate in India or a person qualified to be admitted as an Advocate under the Advocates Act, 1961.
not more than 32 years of age
In the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Tribes, the upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years.
Preliminary Examination : Objective and Multiple Choice Type
Mains Examination : Descriptive Exam (Written Conventional Type)

One paper of multiple choice questions carrying maximum of 200 marks.
Delhi Judicial Service Preliminary Examination (Objective type with 25% negative marking) for selection for the Mains Examination (Written)
Minimum qualifying marks in the preliminary examination shall be 60% for general category and 55% for reserved categories.
The duration of the Examination shall be (2½) two and a half hours.

The duration of Papers 1, 2, 3 and 4 shall be 3 hours each.
This paper shall comprise of two Sections:-
Section I: General Legal Knowledge:- This paper will be of 100 marks.
This is to test the candidate’s knowledge of current legal affairs etc.
Section II: Language (Essay, Translation and Precis Writing): This paper will be of 150 marks.
This is to test the candidate’s knowledge and power of expression in English.
Credit will be given both for substance and expression. Conversely deduction will be made for bad expression, faults of grammar and misuse of words etc.
There will be two passages for translations, one in English which will be required to be translated into Hindi (in Devnagri Script) and the second passage in Hindi (in Devnagri Script) shall be required to be translated into English.

INTERVIEW: VIVA VOCE
Viva-Voce will carry 150 marks.
Candidates of general category must secure minimum 40% marks in each written paper and 50% marks in the aggregate and candidates of reserved categories, i.e., Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and eligible categories of Persons with Disabilities as specified for this Service must secure minimum 35% marks in each written paper and 45% marks in the aggregate in Mains Examination (Written) to be eligible for being called for Viva Voce.
(i) The following categories of disabilities have been identified as suitable for the post of Judicial Officer in Delhi Judicial Service (Refer to Gazette Notification dated 04.01.2021):
(a) Blindness, Low Vision;
(b) One Arm, One Leg, Both Legs, Leprosy Cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack Victims.
(c) Specific Learning Disability;
(d) Multiple Disabilities involving Blindness, Low Vision; One Arm, One Leg, Both Legs, Leprosy Cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack Victims; Specific Learning Disability.
The candidates who belong to any of the aforesaid category are required to apply in the PwD category.
(ii) All the candidates belonging to any of the aforesaid identified disabilities are eligible for reservation during this examination, provided that the extent of disability is 40% or more.
No further relaxation in marks would be considered or admissible in favour of such candidate on account of belonging to any other reserved category. For all other candidates, the minimum qualifying marks will be the marks applicable to their respective category, i.e. General, SC or ST.
(iii) Concession in examination fees will be provided to all PwD candidates who have identified disabilities [i.e. categories (a), (b), (c) and (d) above] provided the extent of disability is 40% or more.
(iv) All PwD candidates who have identified disabilities, [i.e. categories (a), (b), (c) and (d) above], irrespective of category and extent of disability and have limitation in writing, may opt for the facility of ascribe (either to be provided by Delhi High Court or own scribe) and/or compensatory time subject to the following conditions:
(a) The candidate shall be required to furnish a certificate in original in the prescribed format (Annexure ‘A’) regarding physical limitation of the examinee to write, which shall be given by the Specialist of the relevant stream/disability and duly countersigned by CMO/Civil Surgeon/Medical Superintendent of a Government Healthcare Institution.
(b) The candidates shall be required to furnish duly notarized affidavit on a non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10/- in the prescribed format (Annexure ‘B’).
(v) The candidates who are eligible for compensatory time and avail of the same will be granted compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of the duration of the examination in addition to the prescribed time for the Preliminary Examination and the Mains Examination (Written) of DJSE-2023.
(vi) The PwD candidates who have limitation in writing must submit the Certificate of Limitation in Writing (in original) and the Affidavit in the prescribed format in the office of Joint Registrar (Examinations – DHJS & DJS), High Court of Delhi, in advance at least three days prior to the date of examinations (Preliminary as well as Mains) otherwise they will not be allowed to avail the facility of scribe and/or Compensatory Time.
(vii) Candidates, who avail the facility of scribe in the Preliminary Examination and/or Mains Examination (Written), should note that they shall not be allowed to read the Question Paper or mark answers and only the scribe shall be allowed to read out the questions and mark/write the answers in the answer sheet as per the instructions given by the candidate.
(viii) Candidates for whom reservation is available in this examination, the minimum qualifying marks for the Preliminary Examination, Mains Examination (Written) and Viva-voce are as follows:
Preliminary Examination - 55 % Marks.
Mains Examination - 35% Marks in each Paper and 45% Marks in aggregate.
Viva voce- 45% Marks.
