Important Appointments

1.   Bhupendra Patel took oath as 17th Chief Minister of Gujarat on September 13, 2021. This comes after the resignation of Vijay Rupani from the post of CM of Gujarat.

2.   Justice M. Venugopal has been appointed as the new Acting Chairperson of the appellate tribunal. National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) with effect from September 11, 2021.

3.    GC Murmu-- The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India GC Murmu was elected as the Chairman of the assembly of ASOSAI on September 7, 2021 for a period of three years from 2024 to 2027. ASOSAI stands for 'Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions'.

4. PPK Ramacharyulu -- Rajya Sabha chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu appointed Dr. Parasaram Pattabhi Kesava Ramacharyulu as the new Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha on September 4, 2021.

5.    La Ganesan -- President Ram Nath Kovind appointed La Ganesan as the new governor of Manipur on August 22, 2021.

6.    Justice Vidyasagar M. Kanade, former Judge of the Bombay High Court was sworn in as the new Lokayukta of Maharashtra on August 19, 2021.

7.  Border Security Force (BSF) Director General (DG) Rakesh Asthana has been appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner on July 27, 2021, with immediate effect. His appointment came just three days before his superannuation on July 31, 2021. Rakesh Asthana, a 1984 batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, will have a tenure of one year.

8.    Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has been appointed as the 'deputy Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha on July 19, 2021.

9.    Pushkar Singh Dhami has sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on July 4, 2021.

10. Air Marshal Vivek Ram Choudhary took over as the new Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force on July 1, 2021.

11. The Government of Delhi has appointed former Padma Shri-winning Indian weightlifter Karnam Malleshwari on June 26, 2021 as the first vice chancellor of Delhi Sports University. Malleshwari is the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics. She won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She has also been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Rama Award (1995), Arjuna Award (1994) and Padma Shri (1999).

12. The former Supreme Court Judge Justice Arun Kumar Mishra has been sworn in as the new Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India on June 2, 2021.

13. The former Maharashtra director general of police Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, has been appointed as the new Director of the CBI on May 25,2021.

14. Narinder Batra has been re-elected as the President of International Hockey Federation (FIH) for the second consecutive term in virtual 47th Congress of FIH on May 21, 2021.

15. Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana ( NV Ramana) on April 24, 2021 took charge as the 48th Chief Justice of India. He replaced Justice SA Bobde who retired On April 23, 2021.

16. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan was sworn in for his 2nd straight five-year term on May 20, 2021. The 76-year-old Pinarayi Vijayan assumed the charge as the 12th Chief Minister of Kerala. Left Democratic Front leader Pinarayi Vijayan is the first chief minister from Kerala to be re-elected after completing a full term (five years) in office.

17. BCCI has appointed former Indian spinner Ramesh Powar as the head coach of India women's cricket team on May 15, 2021.

18. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been named as the new Chief Minister of Assam on May 8, 2021. He will replace incumbent Sarbananda Sonowal.

19. Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin has been sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7, 2021.

20. The All-India NR Congress (AINRC) founder N Rangasamy has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Puducherry, for a record fourth time, on May 7, 2021. Prior to this, the 71-year-old served as Chief Minister of Puducherry from 2001 to 2008 as a member of the Indian National Congress and then from 2011 to 2016 as a member of AINRC.

21. Mamata Banerjee, has been swom-in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 5, 2021 for the third consecutive term, after a massive win in the state assembly elections 2021.

22. Senior IPS officer MA Ganapathy has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of National Security Guard (NSG) on March 16, 2021.

23. The Central Government has appointed Dr. GP Samanta as the new Chief Statistician of India (CSI) for a period of two years.

24. World Bank economist Deepak Mishra has been appointed as the next Director and Chief Executive of leading think-tank Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) on March 13, 2021.

25. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed senior IPS officer Kuldeep Singh as the Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on March 1, 2021.

26. Ajay Malhotra has become the first Indian to be elected as the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the UN Human Rights Council, on February 15, 2021. He joined the Indian Foreign Services in 1977.

27. Sushil Chandra has been named to become the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India with effect from April 13, 2021. He will replace incumbent CEC, Sunil Arora, who will retire on April 12, 2021. The Election Commission of India consists of three members, namely Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners.
